8/14/12 Oncology Nutrition Meeting Yesterday pr

My meeting with Ms. Stacey L. Scrabis, RD,LD/N Oncology Registered Dietitian,  went very well.  I learned alot, just when I thought I knew everything about food! I learned that the most contaminated foods are called the "DIRTY DOZEN and these should be bought organic.  They are Celery, Peaches, Nectarines, Sweet bell peppers, Blueberries  and Kale/Collard greens,Apples, Strawberries, Spinach, Grapes, Potatoes, and Lettuce.  When in doubt about any veggies or fruits you may cover them with water and add a tablespoon of Clorox to the water.  Leave for one hour and wash the items good.  This was recommended when I lived in Turkey and it was helpful.  Lowest in Pesticides are: Corn, Avocados, Sweet Peas, Mangoes, Pineapples, Cantaloupe, Kiwi, Cabbage Watermelon, Sweet Potatoes, Grapefruit and Mushrooms./ Soy and Breast Cancer./  Limit your intake to three servings a day..  Soy contains components that may help in cancer prevention.  However, these same components may interfere with certain anti-cancer treatments. Isoflavones found in soy are chemically similar to the hormone estrogen, which may also increase estrogen activity, which the tumors feed on. Perhaps, you will re-think how you clean your fruits and veggies! Now you may eat and enjoy! Hugs, phyllis 05/06/1933 www.women70andover.com
