8/28/12 Attitude..Determination..Stay Focused..pr

All the cliques go here!  Better to use honey than vinegar.  Don't be negative! Smile! Think beautiful things!
When you meet a new person, study their face and comment on the beauty you do see.  Follow the ends of your goals.  Do the wonderful things today as you dreamed of them  at the red light. Be hell bent.  Which brings me to today August 28, 2012. I have 28 more days of Radiation treatments.  You could call this the middle of Radiation treatments.  I have turned it into a yoga time for myself.  Clearing my mind with air. Doing silly things like counting the Phillips Screws in the big disk that comes over my chest.  There are twelve screws.  I almost say good morning to these components of this machine.  The one arm that stands guard and waits it's turn to swing my me.    That is vital news you have been waiting for.  I no longer dread Radiation.  The more air that goes through my head, the quicker it will be over.  My dear friend will go with me tomorrow.  I wonder what her thoughts will be, while waiting for me!Hugs, phyllis   05/06/12      www.women70andover.com

8/26/12... "Mother Hens" us? pr

We women take care of our men.  We watch what they eat.  We encourage them to exercise. Women watch over their men like “Mother Hens”! On the other hand, when it comes to us, women are very similar.  We do not go to the doctor with the onset of pains.  If we are losing weight, we do not tend to ourselves, or if we are gaining, we just look in the mirror and say, oh well! This has all happened to me in some form.  The morning show today was given by Dr. Gupta on CNN.  He is quite good.  He went into women are number one with having heart attacks.  The symptoms are nausea. Pain down either arm. Jaw hurting. Feeling Clammy. Chew two aspirin and call 911. Dr. Gupta pointed out, if you are wrong, you win and if you are having a heart attack, you win because you will get help and save your life.  Take care of yourself, you are a treasure and one of a kind.Hugs, phyllis  05/06/1933  www.women70andover.com

8/25/12 Something Good To Think About pr

We all think of volunteering somewhere, sometime?  I had my own plan of sharing  drawings in the Oncology department.  Like all other things you think of, you are suddenly taken down a different road. Perhaps a more interesting road.  That is what happened to me.  I was in the waiting room today, waiting

For Bill to pick me up after his physical therapy session.  I got to talking to the Librarian of the cancer materials.  Before I knew it, we became fast friends.  I told her of my volunteer orientation at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach.  Then a woman went to the desk to check in for her cancer appointment.  She was nervous and scared.  I guess you have to have been there like me to spot this in someone.  So I helped her as much as I could.  I forgot where I was and got a cup of coffee for her, just as if I was home.

I gave her my card and welcomed her as a friend.  She calmed down and even smiled.  Before I knew it, she was even laughing and she felt more comfortable.  It was written all over her sweet face. Gee, that made me feel good.  At that moment, the librarian said she hoped I would volunteer in her department.  Who knows?  I just might do that!  If you want to feel as good as I do..Try volunteering at your local hospital.  Halifax Hospital of Daytona Beach, Fl sure is a good place.  I feel so comfortable there.  Perhaps I would not have known that without getting cancer! 8/24/12 People Just Plain Need Each Other ! pr

Yesterday after my radiation treatment I went over to Ormond Oncology, the other end of town.  This was my first day as a volunteer in the Chemo department.  I had my brochures in hand I had made telling about the "NoLookDrawing" and some of my work on this.  One young lady, beautiful, just 21 read the brochure and thought it was such a good idea.  She was having an intravenous treatment of some sort. Her Mother was there, almost ringing her hands and pacing back and forth.  She had heard me speak of the art project and thought it was a good idea.  Instead, what they both wanted was to talk of her treatment and what had happened to this lovely girl.  I listened and folded up the art brochure.  They really need so badly to talk and spill out their story.  That was the most important thing.  I smiled and listened and when I left I carried part of them with me.  This is the most important thing in life, people just plain need each other! 8/23/12 Friend Kevin...Cancer=Face and Shoulder

Hey! What's going on here?  Your friends are not suppose to get cancer.  Kevin was at a talk on skin
cancer.  He thought, "That sounds like what is on my shoulder!"  Sure enough he went to the skin
Doctor and he took that off right away.  In the process, they discovered  cancer on his face.  He had that taken off yesterday.  We go to the same skin doctor group.  Dr. Jeff Parr and Associates.  Bill always has cancer burned or cut off of him at each skin visit.   He was a sailboat man for fifty years and a red head..He sailed in the days they did not even have sunscreen.  Oh! to think about that.  I have had some cancer taken off my face and even in my eyebrow.  If you have a face the sun can find you!  Think of the days when we would lay out and get "sun tanned" we called it.  A little stupidity went a long way for me and my girlfriends in my teen-age years.  Thank-heavens most of us put on sun screen. now. The skin cancer you find today has been brewing on you ..us..and me for twenty years previous.
